Presented by Ken DoRosario, MT-BC, Norfolk’s own board-certified music therapist! Come join us for a fun and creative music session where children will have the opportunity to sing, play instruments, creatively move, and improvise in a group setting. Taking turns, sharing, moving to the beat of music, and interacting with peers are just some of the areas addressed in the session.
The workshop is in the Music Room at HOD and students can go straight to the music room at the end of school. Parents can pick up at 4:30PM. Everyone MUST register and space is limited. Parents of PreK Students MUST attend. All Parents welcome.
Mr. Ken will be providing a sampling of music therapy activities and interventions utilized in music therapy sessions in a fun and relaxed environment for students at Freeman-Kennedy School. Learn more about Music Therapy at musictherapy.org
Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Through creating, singing, moving to, and/or listening to music, the abilities of individuals can be strengthened and transferred to other areas of their lives. Music Therapy can address several needs simultaneously in a positive and exciting medium: it may provide pleasurable learning that promotes success. Music Therapy also provides avenues for communication that can be helpful to those who find it difficult to express themselves in words.
Music Therapy is different than music education because music therapists don’t teach music, but rather USE all the different aspects of music to induce and observe positive change in both musical and non-musical areas by focusing on achieving therapeutic goals. Most people, especially children, enjoy music – therefore, music therapy can be the therapy that reinforces all other therapies.
